
The HRCAP Non-Profit Leadership Institute (NLI) is an eight-week, in-person
leadership development program designed to strengthen Non-Profit leadership capacity across Hampton Roads. The Institute prepares emerging and current leaders for executive leadership, senior management, and board service through practical learning, mentorship, and real-world Non-Profit experience.
Our goal is simple: to develop confident, capable Non-Profit leaders who are ready to lead organizations, collaborate across sectors, and drive meaningful community impact.
Who We Serve
The Non-Profit Leadership Institute is designed for:
- HRCAP staff, including emerging and current leaders
- Selected community participants interested in Non-Profit leadership, governance, and service
Participants come from diverse professional backgrounds but share a commitment to missiondriven leadership and community impact.
What We Do
The Institute combines structured instruction, experiential learning, and professional coaching to build essential Non-Profitt leadership competencies. Participants gain a comprehensive understanding of Non-Profit management, governance, financial oversight, people and culture, strategic partnerships, and executive leadership.
Learning extends beyond the classroom through site visits, leadership conversations with Non-Profit executives, and collaborative problem-solving focused on real community challenges.

The Non-Profit Leadership Institute is delivered as a cohort-based, in-person program over eight weeks

- 10:30–11:00 AM – Networking & Working Lunch
- 11:00 AM–1:00 PM – Instructional Session

Professional Recognition
The Non-Profit Leadership Institute is designed to offer IACET-accredited Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and SHRM recertification credits, providing participants with recognized professional development in leadership, governance, and management.
